If you’ve spent any amount of time at all in the Boston area you know that getting from point A to point B is never as easy as you might think. That means that Beantown residents have to think long and hard about travelling across the city to do their day-to-day business.
Over the years, this has led Bostonians to base everyday decisions like, “ which Boston dentist is best for my family?” on factors like, “Will getting to his or her office during rush hour become a nightmare?” and, “Does public transportation actually go to this place?” After all, time is money and, in Boston anyways, a simple drive to the dentist can wind up costing you plenty of both.
So the question remains, how far should you travel to find a great dentist? To help you pick through the math, here are a few factors you should consider when making this very important decision.
Go for a Generalist
Thanks to a flurry of incredible technological advances, many of today’s top dentists specialize in some pretty narrow fields of expertise. You can easily find an excellent dentist who does nothing but root canals; or teeth implants; or practically anything else you can imagine.
If you really need the best possible dentist in a particular field, this is definitely the way to go, and makes wading through crosstown traffic worth the effort.
At the same time, technological advances have allowed other dentists to expand their fields of expertise well beyond the traditional confines of general dentistry.
For example, many tech-savvy dentists have invested have invested in 3D printers and laser cutting devices that make it possible for them to make crown in their own office. This is an incredible improvement over the old way of getting crowns made which involved sending them off to an offsite workshop to be molded.
Advances like these are a major boon for patients who aren’t crazy about waiting around for their new teeth and/or making repeated trips across town for the same, basic procedure.
Are you one of those people who seriously dreads going to the dentist, even for a simple cleaning? If you are, then you know that when you find the right dentist, you really want to hang on to him or her. This is especially true when it comes to family dentists.
You don’t need to be the best parent on the planet to know that a good dentist can a long ways towards helping your children establish lifelong brushing and flossing habits. If you’ve got a pediatric dentist who really clicks with your kids, we’d recommend biting the bullet and sticking with him, no matter how much Boston traffic you have to wade through to get to him.
At the end of the day, every Boston resident knows that wading through wicked bad traffic is the price of admission for living in one of America’s most interesting and historic, cities. So we say that if you like your Boston dentist, just keep seeing him.
